What happened? :
Lowest paid job I ever had. You have to fight tooth and nail for even a 50 cent raise. There’s no privacy. If you want a day off, the dentist will ask you for unnecessary details. Also, upon hiring she says “I will only hire you if you promise to never collect unemployment if I ever fire you. I don’t want my unemployment insurance to go up”. No benefits whatsoever. Only one person in the office gets the pto she deserves but only because she is full time. For the hourly minimum wage, the boss will demand you to clean the office (bathrooms included), hand out fliers, assist her, come on your day off on occasion because someone called out, shred the old medical records yourself cuz she’s too cheap to pay a proper company to do it for her following hipaa compliance, clean your own wounds with the cavi wipes (esp if you get accidental puncture from a used needle), no sick days, sterilize the instruments, maybe bill, and also act as the medical doctor’s receptionist (the dr happens to be her husband in the same office). You’ll have to deal with her mood swings. As a boss, she also loved to gossip about other employees personal lives. She has a thing against Hispanics and single moms. She is threatened by young women very quickly because her mood changes and she gets jumpy.
How did your boss respond?:
Gaslighting and minimizing. Always claimed that this is a normal expectation from a dental office and that she is doing you a favor by keeping you around. She will threaten to fire you in front of patients too.
Anything you wish you’d known sooner?:
I wish I knew how toxic and unhealthy she was. I would’ve never worked for her as long as I did.
